Winemaking process

Varieties:
Cabernet, reflecting both the noble character of the grape and the terroir of the Unterland in South Tyrol, along with Cabernet Sauvignon from 40-year-old vines trained on a pergola system, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, impart to this wine its fruity and soft texture.

Terroir:
The vines are grown on soils of calcareous, late glacial deposits with sandy clay over porphyry substrate at 270 meters above sea level, facing south.

Vinification:
Following spontaneous fermentation in open tonneaux, the wine matures for 20 months on the coarse lees in 225-litres barrique casks of French oak, followed by bottle-aging.

Opinion

Anton Felix von Longo-Liebenstein

"The Wellenburg is a truly refined wine. It's very elegant and serves as the perfect complement to our white Liebenstein, showcasing the finesse and balance that our vineyards are known for. Hold & drink later."

Wellenburg

From the hanging branches, cherries, soft blackberries hit the ground,
softened in the burning sun.

Soft tanginess of unripe plums
subdued taste of blackcurrants emerges,
brushing against you,
silky breathing.

A.P.

The 20 hectares of the biodynamically cultivated vineyards of Baron Longo are located in South Tyrol’s south, around the picturesque Castelletto in Egna. The vineyards range from 240 metres a.s.l. up to Montagna, in the Trudner Horn Nature Park, where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes thrive. The main varieties produced by the family winery are Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Cabernet. As a winemaker, Anton Baron Longo concentrates on wines that are distinguished by their elegance.
